A bank of five 400 μF capacitors wired up in parallel (to give a total of 2000 μF) is charged up to about 3.5 kV and suddenly discharged through 100 cm of 1.3 mm diameter spring temper steel music wire. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME Shot in 300 fps on Feb 15, 2011 in Hall B. The second part of the video is just a replay of the first, with the initial explosion slowed down. Thanks to Rob for letting us use the camera.
