There are a few different power-saving modes that you can enable, each of which turns off certain features, and if you buy the Galaxy S20 FE we’d recommend that you experiment with these if you want to max-out your battery life. The biggest surprise is that this is a fantastic phone, arguably easier to recommend than any other Samsung mobile this year. Especially if you’re in the UK and want a Samsung Galaxy phone with the Snapdragon 865. Speaking of which, the two phones are closer in performance when it comes to graphics processing. In the GFXBench Manhattan 3 offscreen test it was a dead heat between the S20 FE and S20, with the phones producing off-screen results of 129fps and 122fps, respectively.

While I often struggled to make it through do with the S20 and S20 Plus, doing so with the S20 FE is easy and I can easily achieve more than six hours of screen on time – often more than an hour more. Now and then, colors looked a bit too bold though, as though the scene optimization had gotten overzealous, making images look rather artificial. Calls to customer services I'm glad that the Galaxy S20 FE features a 120Hz display, which I think is a better feature to bring over from the regular Galaxy S20 than its sharper quad HD resolution. The S20 FE makes do with a full HD+ screen with 2400 x 1800 pixels. At 6.5-inches, the FE sits between the smaller S20 and the larger S20 Plus. For me, it feels like the perfect size and I really appreciate the flat display which is far superior for gaming than a curved panel. It captures shots at 0.5x zoom, compared to 0.6x on most, so you’ll see even more of your vista or group of friends in the frame.
Alas, the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 4G gets a plain Exynos 990, except this time it is hooked up to an LTE modem, so no 5G connectivity here. The Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition comes with Android 10 built in, though you can now update it to Android 12. Before the Galaxy S20 FE’s launch, Samsung promised that future phones would get at least three years of Android updates, so you’ll definitely get Android 13, and perhaps beyond.Gaming in particular felt fast and responsive – we never experienced any lag or glitches, even when playing demanding games like Call of Duty: Mobile and PUBG Mobile at top settings.
