Mahatma Gandhi challenged the British imposistion of tax for salt in India. The 61 year old Gandhi, along with 78 followers marched from Sabarmati ashram to Dandi beach, covering a distance of 240 miles in 23 days. They reached Dandi on 5th April 1930. With a handful of salt, he sent shockwaves through the British monopoly and showed the finest example of non-violent revolution.
